THE SHAMANIC MODE OF CONSCIOUSNESS & The Field of Intelligence: Feeling, Intuition, and Dreaming

Dreamscape_by_funkwoodFriday June 19th 6pm – Sunday June 21st 5pm

In this workshop we will draw on psychoshamanic wisdom concerning the two major modes of consciousness, the “Doctor Mode of Working,” and the “Shamanic Mode of Working” with clients and their dreaming process. The Doctor Mode is based in intellectual knowledge and schooling, and approaches clients and their dreaming process with words, ideas, concepts, and scientific information. As an approach to a client dream or problem. It is about analysis, creating solutions, understanding and meaning, using goals and strategy. The Doctor Mode operates by focusing primarily on the foreground, on what the client talks about. It brings a conscious, programmed, logical, and methodical approach.

The Shamanic Mode is more unconscious, intuitive, patiently waiting, and flowing. It intentionally focuses on the background of experience, with feeling, body sense, attention to synchronicity and subtle shifts of energy. It may focus on body language, skin color changes, voice tonality shifts, and the internal feelings arising in the healer (as a clue to the client’s process). The shamanic mode may be considered non-linear, based in intuitive feeling, body perceptions, empathic loving, conscious use of attitudes and feelings, and the second attention. It has no program, but waits and follows the energy flow to receive flashes of insights and spontaneous revelation.

Psychoshamanism, as I practice it, involves a flow between both modes. It employs an indigenous heart and gut psychology with the best modern scientific and professional approaches. We humans come wired for both modes, and both have a job to play in shamanic client work, dream work, and healing. However, therapy systems seldom help us become conscious and intentionally use the Shamanic Mode. In this workshop we will begin to explore and practice their interrelationships in this workshop, through group and dyadic work on our dreaming.   -Mikkal
